An uncharacteristically refined and ‘serious’ Rosé, standing out against a veritable avalanche of ‘blush’ and often, too sweet Rosés. But Gisborne has always done big wines and there is no reason to expect a Gisborne Rosé should imitate the pale wines of Province.
This is a Rosé with Heart and Soul, depth of colour and flavour. In fact… it tastes how it looks. The key lies in full extraction of the flavour and colour of 100% Merlot, then aging the resulting wine in old Red Wine barrels for 14 months. The result is garnet in colour with fresh Strawberries and Cream on the nose, but with wonderful underlying intensity of red berry fruit flavours across the palate. Picked from mature lower yielding vines in the Jackson Vineyard on the Patutahi Terrace, this Le Pont Rose 2018 confirms that Gisborne Merlot is the key to a wine with depth and flavour
